Agriculture, Forestry, and Waste Management Technical Work Group

All documents prepared for the Agriculture, Forestry, and Waste Management (AFW) Technical Work Group (TWG) will be posted here, along with other documents of interest.  Typically the TWG meets via teleconference.  Members of the public may attend any teleconference call via speakerphone at the location specificed in the Meeting Notice and Agenda.  (If the TWG meets in-person, members of the public are also welcome to attend at the location specificed in the Meeting Notice and Agenda.)  The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) facilitates these calls and prepares various documents for the calls.

  • Chapter 6 of the US GHG Inventory:  provides national estimates of carbon stock changes in forests (and other land uses). Information is provided on the national forest carbon stock methodology.                     
  • Annex to the US GHG Inventory:  provides additional details on the forest carbon stock methodology, including some state and regional information.                     
  • How to Estimate Forest Carbon for Large Areas from Inventory Data:  simple step-by-step guidance on using forest inventory data to estimate carbon stock change at regional, state, and local scales.  The approach is based on the national forest carbon stock methodology.                          
  • Methods for Calculating Forest Ecosystem and Harvested Carbon with Standard Estimates for Forest Types of the United States:  specific techniques for calculating annual carbon fluxes in forests and forest products, including detailed carbon yield tables by region and forest type.  The carbon yield tables are developed from the national forest carbon modeling system used in the national inventory.                       
  • Data Gaps for Monitoring Forest Carbon in the United States:  a review of inventory programs for estimating forest carbon stocks, including discussion of current gaps and opportunities for improvement.
